MWC Owner
Andrew Schaaf is the Owner and President of Mountain West Consulting, bringing a career defined by hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of electric utility and industrial infrastructure projects. His background spans working directly within power plant operations, supporting utilities from the inside, and building a deep understanding of how facilities are designed, operated, maintained, and improved.
Andrew’s experience includes the design and development of new facilities, commissioning and startup of complex systems, and executing system modifications within active operating plants. He has led and supported projects requiring precise coordination across engineering, operations, and construction teams, ensuring that critical infrastructure is delivered safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
In addition to new builds and system upgrades, Andrew has extensive experience in the decommissioning of power generation facilities, managing the technical, operational, and logistical challenges associated with retiring assets while maintaining safety, compliance, and cost control. His ability to navigate projects from initial concept and design through execution and closeout provides clients with a comprehensive and practical perspective on project delivery.
Andrew is also a commissioned military officer with nearly 30 years of service, where he has served as a commander and operations leader responsible for leading teams, managing complex missions, and delivering results in high-pressure environments. This experience instilled a disciplined, mission-focused approach that translates directly into how he leads projects, teams, and client engagements.
Transitioning from technical and operational roles into project management, Andrew has built a reputation for disciplined execution, clear communication, and results-driven leadership. Today, as the owner of Mountain West Consulting, he applies that experience to support clients across the utility, industrial, and construction sectors, ensuring projects are managed with accountability, expertise, and a commitment to delivering successful outcomes.
